Abstract

COSTA, Jean Carlo de Carvalho  and  SOARES, Swamy de Paula Lima. Education and poverty: theory of justice as fairness and the recognition policy. Educação. Porto Alegre [online]. 2015, vol.38, n.1, pp.124-137. ISSN 1981-2582.  https://doi.org/10.15448/1981-2582.2015.1.16579.

The purpose of this article is to discuss the theoretical contributions to the debate on education and poverty categories. This is accomplished from the emphasis on the theory of justice as fairness, formulated by John Rawls and the theory of recognition, the latter systematized by Charles Taylor and, in particular, developed by the German philosopher Axel Honneth. The central idea of the paper is to present the main contributions of these two important perspectives of analysis, their possible collisions, convergence and limits for discussion about schooling for poor people.

Keywords : Justice as Fairness; Recognition; Poverty.
