Abstract

This article is part of an investigation which accompanies boys and girls trajectories at schools, analyzing the implications between curricular dispositions and masculinities productions, with repercussions on school performance. Among vary methodological strategies considered by this research project; episodes registered in field diary are privileged. It is the product of direct observation of the interactions of a regular student in the ninth grade of Elementary School of a public school located in a town in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. The concepts of gender, masculinity, school and curriculum are central for this discussion, which intends to be established, being done from observed scenes, allegorically represented by a cap with a cannabis leaf as its ornament. The confrontations between constructing as a man, being a good student, fulfill the curricular demands, living his juvenile culture, occupying himself with his preparation for the future, honoring his familiar plans, being understood - or not - by the teachers, composes the field through which the trajectory of the student, here called Diego, unfurls.
