Abstract

SANTOS, Almir Paulo dos. Education “by things”, educational principle in Rousseau’s enlightenment. Educação. Porto Alegre [online]. 2016, vol.39, n.esp, pp.96-105. ISSN 1981-2582.  https://doi.org/10.15448/1981-2582.2016.s.21898.

This article aims to explore Rousseau's contributions about education in middle childhood, Emilio`s Book II. The axis of reflection is to understand how education “by things” becomes the foundation for strengthening the body and refinement of the senses in child's cognitive stage. The pedagogical principle of education “by things” is the starting point of the education act, but it is necessary to take into account the student´s world, their limits and potentials away from the vices of society. Conserve the child on the depending of things is to follow the order of nature. Education “by things” should replace the discursive educational intervention in adult. Its interference in the process of natural education develops the mediation between the needs of children and adult care.
