The article aims to analyze the Specialization Course in Modern Mathematics Didactics in Primary School, offered between 1966 and 1972, at the Institute of Education General Flores da Cunha, in Porto Alegre. It is a course intended for teachers who worked in primary, pre-primary and mathematics didactics, whose objective was to update in mathematics and its approaches in the teaching and learning process. In the dialogue with the documents of the Laboratory of Mathematics of the institution and interviews with participants of the course, we realized that this course contributed significantly to the dissemination of Modern Mathematics in the Rio Grande do Sul.
