Abstract

KLOH, Leticia de Medeiros  and  CARNEIRO, Reginaldo Fernando. History of the deaf education and the mathematics teaching in the brazilian contexto. Educação. Porto Alegre [online]. 2020, vol.43, n.1, e31296.  Epub Jan 18, 2021. ISSN 1981-2582.  https://doi.org/10.15448/1981-2582.2020.1.31296.

This paper presents a historical overview of the deaf education and the mathematics teaching in Brazil since the Portuguese colonization to the current context, through the different ways of seeing mathematics in the educational field and the different approaches already used in the deaf education. It also presents a temporal parallel between the trajectories of mathematics education and the deaf education so as to reflect on the misunderstandings and the advances made. In order to achieve this objective, a bibliographical analysis was carried out, in order to present, in chronological order, several changes suffered through the time that have brought us up to this point in the deaf education and mathematics education, a moment marked, mainly, by the recent public policies that arose since the end of the 20th century and refer to deafness, to the Brazilian Language of Signals - Libras - and to the mathematics teaching.

Keywords : deafness education; teaching mathematics; deafness; history.
