The objective of the text is to discuss the expansion of vacancies for Early Childhood Education in the context of the National Program for Restructuring and Acquisition of Equipment for Public School Network of Early Childhood Education (PROINFÂNCIA), considering that the federal government program had in its assumptions the expansion of vacancies for children from 0 to 5 years, in collaboration with the municipalities. The methodology was based on the literature review, taking as a reference the studies carried out in the years 2008 to 2018 on PROINFÂNCIA. The study revealed that Proinfância contributed to placing education on the agenda of educational policy priorities within the federal and municipal governments, representing a historical advance for the area.
