Resumen

NAIDITCH, Fernando. Faciendo discimus: the convergence of doing and learning in study abroad programs. Educação. Porto Alegre [online]. 2022, vol.45, n.1, e-43990.  Epub 17-Jul-2023. ISSN 1981-2582.  https://doi.org/10.15448/1981-2582.2022.1.43990.

Study abroad programs have become common practice in American universities to offer students a broader and more well-rounded education. The need to learn about a different viewpoint, to get to know new ideas and to experiment life in another country, even if for a short period of time, is now part of the requirements in many higher education programs. Besides preparing students for their future professional careers, the university also needs to prepare them for life, and this means that it is part of its role to provide experiences that will take students and learning beyond the classrooms and the campus. Study abroad programs allow students to get to know new realities and, thus, develop what we refer to as the 4 C's: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Study abroad programs as part of the students’ academic journey help them develop a number of skills and competencies that may transform their lives both personally and professionally.

Palabras clave : study abroad; universities; experiential learning; academic competencies and skills; internationalization.
