Considering that teacher cognitions are determinant in human development, since they exert a strong influence in the way they characterize the phenomena and consequently guide the behaviors and their practices, this research aimed to know the cognitions and practices of teachers who work in the public and private education network in the city of Santarém-Pará regarding the social skills construct. The research was carried out with 10 teachers, 5 being of the public network and 5 of the private network acting in basic education. The data collected in the interviews were analyzed through the technique of the Discourse of the Collective Subject - DCS. The results showed teachers relate their cognitions about Social Skills as necessary for the integral development of the learner. It is also highlighted the need for new research in the area, focusing on intervention or social skills training for this public.
