Abstract

TRENTIN, Luciano  and  TRENTIN, Valéria Becher. Development of competences: a study with teachers of higher education. Educação. Porto Alegre [online]. 2022, vol.45, n.1, e-34205.  Epub July 17, 2023. ISSN 1981-2582.  https://doi.org/10.15448/1981-2582.2022.1.34205.

The present article aims to identify how the development of teaching competences in higher education occurs. Data collection was performed through a descriptive research, applied through the virtual platform of “Google Forms”. The sample consisted of 199 teachers who work in public and private universities in the state of Santa Catarina, being collected for accessibility and convenience. Through the statistical technique of multiple regression, it was shown that institutional support was presented as a predictor exclusively for the development of general skills and self-learning was shown as a predictor only for the development of teaching, research and general competences. It was also noted the need to expand the development of extension and management skills in educational institutions, through institutional support or self-learning.

Keywords : skills development; teachers; higher education; institutional support; self-learning.
