The objective of this article is to analyze, from the legal context of adoption in Brazil, some elements present in the forces at play in which the practice of preparing the families that intend to adopt is built, giving prominence to the orientation activities made by psychologists to these suitors. In the master's research that bases this article, semi-structured interviews were conducted with members of a support group for adoption and with professionals from public and private schools in a city in the interior of São Paulo. There were also participations in meetings of preparation of adoption suitors promoted by this support group. We emphasize in the analysis of this work the dangers of some practices that, even seeking to combat stereotypes, can strengthen them, requiring, in relation to the interventions performed as psychologists, the constant need to revisit their strategies and their effects. We defend the ethical direction of a work that strengthens ruptures in the ideal family conception contained in the practice of adoption.
