This article is an appendix to a research-extension project developed by the Nucleus of Studies in Psychoanalysis and Infancies with municipal nurseries from Porto Alegre. Based on this experience, we decided to investigate the education care work developed in kindergarten institutions and also how social markers such as gender, race and class can mark this profession in Brazil. For this purpose, we have done a brief historical summary of the constitution of the European and Brazilian kindergartens through a narrative revision of literature; furthermore, we have selected a few excerpts from clinicals diaries – registration materials adopted by the ones involved in the research-extension project – which relate with our investigation. Throughout that process, it has been shown the significance of considering the work done by nursery educators as a confluence of historical and social aspects and an intersectional panorama, permeated by gender, race, class and devaluation processes of diverse natures.
