Abstract

The reduction of the subject in the conditions of individual well-being or in entrepreneurship became a rationality that started to be registered as human and social relations. In a way, it started to direct the purposes, strategies and educational processes, guided by individualistic and competitive interests. Given this, this paper aims to affirm the capabilities approach as a relevant theoretical proposal to guide educational policies and pedagogical strategies that contribute to the freedom of the subjects, human formation and social cooperation. The study is constituted as a qualitative research, guided by the analytical-hermeneutic method, in which the methodological procedure of bibliographic research is employed. The text is structured in three sections: the first seeks to present, in general lines, the approach to capabilities in Sen; the second explains the version of the capabilities in Nussbaum; and the third affirms the capabilities approach as a reference to build and develop educational policies and pedagogical proposals that aim for an education for freedom.
