Abstract

BATISTA-SANTOS, Dalve Oliveira. Reading and reader notions among tutors from the university program of academic support to entrants. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.63, pp.1729-1749.  Epub Jan 30, 2020. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.19.063.ao08.

This paper aims to investigate the concept of both reading and reader by tutors from the Program of Academic Support to Entrants (Padi in Brazilian Portuguese). This program was designed by the Undergraduate Academic Dean’s office from the Federal University of Tocantins, with the purpose of helping not only early entrants, but also those who have failed in the basic curricular classes. This research is aligned with the field of Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 2009), which must be viewed through an indisciplinary lens. The theoretical foundation is related to the epistemology of reading, language and communication through a dialogical perspective. Thus, to meet our expectation we took the interview method. The research participants were four PADI tutors, from the Languages undergraduate course of the Federal University of Tocantins. Data revealed the reading process is not about transmitting systematized and social knowledge, but a meaningful linguistic action instead, which needs to be conscious and appropriate.
