CASTRO, Genivaldo Macário de; VIANA, Tania Vicente  e  ALENCAR, Maristela Lage. Movimentos silentes: a educação psicomotora no tratamento de problemas de aprendizagem em alunos surdos. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2007, vol.07, n.20, pp.81-89. ISSN 1981-416X.

This work aims to investigate the contribution of psychomotor education for the cognitive and affective development of deaf students with learning disabilities. Psychomotricity, as a science that studies man in his totality, through the relationships that establishes with himself and the other ones, constitutes a pedagogic tool for the prevention and treatment of learning disabilities. Nowadays, psychomotor education works with global individual, in the motor, cognitive and affective plans, instead of emphasizing the areas with deficits in the development: the mechanical exercises were substituted by free or semi-directed activities, with expression of the creative potential of the student. Based in this conception, a research of interventive nature was proceeded, with a sample of 10 deaf students, in the period of 2004, accomplished in Fortaleza-Ceará-Brazil. The students presented complaint of motor agitation and aggressive behavior in classroom, as well as difficulties to learn the Brazilian Language of Signs, called LIBRAS. The interventions were semi-directed, with diversified material for the free expression of the subjects (balls, spaghetti, hula hoops, strings, tissues, clay, paint). At the end of the work, it was observed the progress of the students in relation to their autonomy, creativity and motivation to learn, with development of the mental discipline and necessary emotional integrity to the formal learning.
