This article is characterized as a historical research on the teaching of Mathematics in Cuiabá in the decade of 1980. It describes the creation of the Grupo de Ensino e Pesquisa em Educação Matemática (GEPEMAT) composed of teachers of the Department of Mathematics of the Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso (UFMT) concerned about the teaching of Mathematics in Cuiabá and Mato Grosso. One of the actions of this group was training for teachers in the course of Teachings of some schools of Cuiabá and Várzea Grande (cities of Mato Grosso), using part of the collection of Instructional Materials of Mathematics of 1, 2 and 3 degrees, prepared by two teachers Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). For this article, use a subject of analysis of the Instructional Materials Mathematics written for the first four series of Grade 1st used in training. In this material identified traces of topics of Modern Mathematics, such as topology, sets, relationships and study of different bases numbering.
