Abstract

This paper results from a research that attempts to map the different alternatives and places for professional teacher training for higher education. Since legislation is omissive in this sense, the experiences are distinct and take up multiple possibilities. In this occasion, we analyzed the graduate program in education as alternative to this training, which has been being searched by teachers from different areas. We reflected mostly upon the motivations of university teachers who undertake master or doctorate courses in education, collected in a field research with 12 subjects who had majored in different programs, either in masters or doctorate levels. Data indicate that the teachers see the programs in education as an alternative for teaching training for higher education, even if this identity is not clearly explicit in the pedagogic proposal of the courses. The study aims at contributing on the reflection about teacher training for higher education in the context of policies for graduate education.
