This work aims at contemplating the academics of arts insert for the Initial Teacher Training (called Estágio Curricular) in the universe of the widest culture and of the teaching in the school, analyzing the Teaching Axis in art in the integrated curriculum of two areas - Music and Visual Arts, implanted at Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa in 2003. It presents a theoretical reflection about the curriculum reforms and legal propositions for the teachers of arts training, having for the theoretical support and historical foundations the dialectical and historical materialism, mainly under the understanding of the training as a theoretical praxis. Authors as Vazquez, Vieira Pinto and Pimenta informed that analysis. We collected the empiric through interviews, questionnaires, informal conversations with students-teachers, coordinators, besides the study of the Regulation of the Training and of excerpts transcriptions of the students from the third year degree of Music and Visual Arts subjects accomplished at the 2005-year-end. The studies revealed the difficulties of the work with art in the school due to the subjects’ formation lack and understanding relating to the specificity of the artistic knowledge. On the other hand, the practical theoretical effort of all involved, due to planning, attendance and systematic evaluation, promoted changes of conceptions and actions in the school as much as in the major at issue.
