This paper presents a parallel between the national curriculum references for early childhood education developed in 1998 by the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ministry of Basic Education in Brazil, and the curricular parameters developed by the Ministry of Education and Science in Spain in 1993 with the intention of “respond” different situations involving the kindergarten there. National Curriculum References for Early Childhood Education to be prepared by the Ministry of Education and Sport of the law suits determinations of guidelines and standards of the National Education (Law 9.394/96). This law establishes for the first time that children’s education is the first stage of basic education, thus enhancing the access of children to school education. This document subsidizes teachers with academic reflection on scientific attempt to overcome the paternalistic tradition that underlay the work in the nurseries in the direction of Education. These writings got inspired on curricular parameters developed by Spain from a collection of nine books which are explained in this article. In developing the implications of Spanish model to Brazilian practice are listed some points that are presented as triggers for analysis of early childhood education professionals. The presentation of the parallel, by itself, it lists points of reflection for teachers of kindergarten collaborating to build a curriculum in tune with the times.
