This article aims to present the results of a research about the Philosophy, Sciences and Language & Literature College (FFCL) of Santa Catarina. The analyses take into consideration the context of the educational policies of the 1960s, the historical status and the foundations that flourished within the college, based on the model of teacher education advocated by intellectuals such as Fernando de Azevedo and Anísio Teixeira. The approaches presented here derive from literature review and interviews we conducted with former professors and former students of the college. The training model that articulated the various Sciences, Philosophy and Language & Literature, plus education extra were was amended by university reform N. 5.540/68, as it established the basic grade, changed the arrangement of courses within the university, dismantling the institutional design in force since the 1930s, and consolidating a functionalist view for teacher education.
