Abstract

Aiming to contribute for the understanding of an important moment in the history of teacher education and in the history of teaching children literature in Brazil, this work presents aspects of the proposal for children literature teaching in teacher education courses for primary school elaborated by Bárbara Vasconcelos de Carvalho and contained in the Compêndio deliteratura infantil: para o 3° ano normal (1959), and by Antônio D’Ávila, and contained in Literatura infanto-juvenil: de acordo com o programa das escolas normais (1961). By means f a historical approach, which focused on documental and bibliographical research using procedures such as finding, recovering, assembling, selecting and reordering documental sources of and about Bárbara V. de Carvalho and Antônio D’Ávila and of specialized bibliography on the subject, the textual configuration of those textbooks was analyzed, which is ananalys is focused on what constitutes the meanings of a text. The results collected from this analysis show that these textbooks allow for the understanding that their authors made an important contribution to the establishment of a set of knowledge relative to children literature which are deemed necessary for the education of primary teachers.
