Pierre Bourdieu dedicated himself to an analysis of the French educational system and revealed the distance between actual school educational practices and the model conceived by educational policies. His studies inspire a radical criticism of the principles of the republican school. The school was therefore a privileged target of some of his main works (“The inheritors”, 1964; “Reproduction”, 1970; “Homo academicus”, 1984; “The State nobility”, 1989) and always occupied an important role in the others. The purpose of this study is to review theoretical reflections that remain relevant to unveiling the logics that guide the strategies for social reproduction and that are found in the discourses about the democratization of education.
