Abstract

ALMEIDA, Jane Soares de  and  SILVA, Vandeí Pinto da. Literacy and scriptures: the teachers in the context of the symbolic in practices of teaching training and professionalization. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.43, pp.911-937. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/dialogo.educ.14.043.AO04.

The article makes an analysis about the symbolization of the feminine image in the social imaginary, as regards the teaching profession, from training practices, teacher professionalization and coeducation of gender, in an historical perspective. From the colonial Brazil, female education was always filled with expectations of domesticity as the lead role being played by women. The opening of the possibilities of pursuing a gainful occupation that was in harmony with this role has made that the teaching of children were, from the beginning, a women vocational orientation in education. Today this situation has expanded and new professional opportunities were open to women, although still not reached egalitarian levels in comparison with the opposite sex.
