The Active Pedagogy, contemplated in this article, a way of teaching defended by Zoltan Dienes, has as one of its highlights the methodology of the discovery which in turn defended the arithmetic approach with games using different structured materials with rules according to the abstract idea that is aimed to accomplish. This way, the question that guides this article is: In which way was the method introduced by Dienes standardized in the teaching of arithmetic´s knowledges during the MMM, specially in São Paulo and circulated throughout the country. The periodicity of the text relates to a period of expansion and creation of educational systems in Brazil, with changes in structure, operation , programs and Mathematics curriculum , according to the regulations imposed by the LDB 4.024 / 61 and LDB 5,692 / 71. During the articulation of issues, I made use of the approach of cultural history and leaned on the concepts of representation, appropriation and strategies posed by Chartier (1991) and Certeau (1982). I concluded that the arithmetics in the early grades, followed the recommendations of the fields of psychology and didactics. The article also seeks to highlight the appropriation of Zoltan Dienes´ ideas, advocating a structuralist approach to mathematics and the use of structured materials which produced major reformulations in teaching, giving a new meaning on what, how and whom to teach.
