This article, titled "The structure of the teaching profession: a study with teachers of vocational education" aims to understand how teachers of vocational education are forming their professional identity. Therefore, it analyzes how the Special Program of Pedagogical Training of Teachers for Basic Education and Professional at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology, Campus Sertão promotes teacher professionalization, causing the participants to build a positive image of the profession and acquire certain professional autonomy. The methodology in the case study adopts a qualitative approach, based on the perception of the students of said program. The tools used for data collection were a structured questionnaire, available on the web, to fill out online and a semi-structured interview. Collected data were subjected to content analysis. It is concluded that the formation of "being a teacher" is linked to personal and professional development of the subject, which is entails subjective and objective elements, considering that most have teaching as their main and/ or supplementary profession; the other group of participants act under the pretense of being professional educators and therefore identify with the profession.
