Abstract

VIEIRA, Fábio Pessoa  and  SOUZA, Lucas Barbosa e. Sustainability in enviromental education: a local alternative in the Reserva Extrativista do Extremo Norte do Tocantins. Rev. Diálogo Educ. This article tries to present another possibility of understanding about sustainability, in Environmental Education, supported by phenomenology and postcolonialism. For this, the path chosen is to understand the relation of man to the environment, considering as a trigger point for this, the involvement with the place. This involvement is understood as a critical perspective on modern and scientific society and its conception of development that implies environmental degradation. Therefore, thinking about sustainability in Environmental Education is to understand that there is a diversity of sustainability built as a product of human experiences from the relation of involvement with the place. In this way, the present research sought to present an alternative, of local sustainability, to the concept of sustainable development, elaborated by the UN. This alternative was described through reports prepared by students of Pedagogy at the Federal University of Tocantins, at a field trip in the Reserva Extrativista do Extremo Norte do Tocantins.
