From the Education Development Plan - PDE in Portuguese acronym - 2007, this essay discusses the fundamentals and the coexistence of the new public gestion practice with democratic management in Regular High School Centers in Distrito Federal. It analyses the work attributions of school principals regarding the management, financial, technological and pedagogical dimensions. It points out that besides the traditional functions, the principal’s work has changed with the use of technologies, medias, social networking, deconcentration of programs in federal and Distrito Federal scope, online accounting, budget quotation and the search for competitiveness among schools by teaching quality indicators. Qualified technical knowledge is also required, as is abiding to the plurality of ideas and to the cultural diversity. It’s also necessary: an hability to ensure the human contact with another; learning how to live with differences and ensure the prevalence of ethical and justice fundamentals; defending the freedom of expression, thoughts and ideas, which amount to an indication that there is an increase in quantity and quality in the school principal’s work.
