SAPIENZA, Laís Bandeira, Graziela. Adaptive functioning, behavior problems and school complaints: teachers’ perception. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.58, pp.974-991.  Epub 06-Feb-2020. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.18.058.ao05.

The teacher’s perception of student performance and behavior in the classroom influences the whole teaching and learning process. The objective of this research was to know the main complaints for the referral of schoolchildren to the psychological evaluation and its relationship with aspects of the adaptive functioning and behavior in the classroom, according to the teacher’s perception. We analyzed fifty psychological records of students sent to a municipal psychology service. Later, the teachers of these students responded to the Teacher Report Form (TRF). Three groups of complaints (G1 - learning difficulties, G2 - behavior problems and G3 - both complaints) were identified, which, when related to TRF data, showed that G3 students are perceived to have more behavior problems than students of other groups, especially in relation to anxiety, social problems and isolation. These data help the teacher in the understanding of aspects related to each of these school complaints and can contribute to the choice of better methods in the teaching and learning process, as well as ensuring a referral for an adequate service.

Palabras clave : School complaints; Psychological assessment; Behavior problems; Adaptive functioning.
