Resumen

SILVA, Rony Rei do Nascimento; MESQUITA, Ilka Miglio de  y  SANTOS, Vera Maria dos. Robert King Hall and the expansion of the rural school in the state of Sergipe (1947-1951). Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.61, pp.662-687.  Epub 31-Ene-2020. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.19.061.ds08.

The goal of this work is to understand the rural primary school’s expansion process in Sergipe considering the circulation of foreign references in the rural teaching, in the time that comprises from 1947-1951. We used, for the accomplishment of this study, among other things, Messages from the state’s Governors, publications from the Revista Brasileira de Estudos Pedagógicos (RBEP), the work Educação em Sergipe from author Nunes Mendonça, Acrísio Cruz’s publications, photographs, and maps. Lastly, we can consider that it was precisely between the years of 1947 and 1951 that 218 rural primary schools were built, a number deemed significant in comparison to the extension of the state’s territory. This was a period with a great expansion of the number of school units and enrollment, hitting unprecedented levels in the history of the state of Sergipe at the time. However, this activity wasn’t a sole product of the local government’s initiatives, but descendent from national and international policy.

Palabras clave : Rural primary school; Expansion; Robert King Hall; Sergipe.
