In this article I discuss the impacts of robots (in software or hardware) with social-emotional abilities in the society. For this purpose, I use as an illustrative scenario the episode "Be right Back" from the second season of the television series "Black Mirror". In this episode, Martha buys a robot that simulates the personality of her deceased husband, learned through his interactions in social networks. The episode examines the personal relationships of affection with robots, precisely the subject that I intend to approach, focusing on the emotions. To do so, I first present the state of the art in Affective Computing research involving robots that are able to detect human’s emotions in a variety of ways and respond to these emotions to interact more anthropomorphically. Subsequently, I will address potential impacts of this type of technology on human life and its well-being and possible ethical implications. I will conclude this article by discussing how technologies can be used for us to learn more about our emotions.
