This study aims to analyze the perceptions and difficulties of the students of graduation in Nutrition of PUCPR related on their empowerment in a new competences-based learning model. It was a qualitative study that used the focal group as data collection technique. For the analysis, thematic analysis was used, according to Bardin (2011). Three categories were found: meanings attributed to the active methodologies; meanings attributed to the physical structure in the use of active methodologies; and changes promoted by the insert of active methodologies in the teaching-learning process. As result, it was possible to identify that the students have positive perceptions of the importance of their empowerment in a new competences-based learning model, in spite of they be still very reagents to the participation in classes that use active methodologies of learning. It was concluded that the great challenge is to improve the student's autonomy during the whole graduation course, because he needs to leave his comfort area, with posture and mental models changes; this is a constant process of learning to learn, which has transforming influence in academia, mainly with positive enterprising reflexes for the job market and for the society.
