BOSSOLASCO, María Luisa  y  CHIECHER, Analía Claudia. What do students expect from a “good teacher”? Unveiling expectations to rethink teaching practice. Rev. Diálogo Educ. This work is part of a larger project aimed at identifying personal and contextual variables that affect the academic profiles of university students. The figure of the teacher is recognized as a variable that can influence these trajectories and for this reason it seeks to identify those traits that would define a good teacher according to the voice of the students. A descriptive study was carried out from a qualitative and inductive logic. For data collection, a self-report questionnaire was administered in which students from two institutions with different academic performance were asked for a description of “a good teacher” was requested. The results show that regardless of the institution of origin and the academic performance obtained, the students who pass the first year at the university level recognize in the teacher's explanation the central node of their pedagogical task and the student as the main recipient of said do. In all cases the meanings converge in a similar sense, a good teacher is one who explains the subjects of his subject in such a way that his students understand, for which he uses different strategies and designs his classes in a format that allows him to achieve this goal. objective. Particular demands were recognized in the group with the lowest academic performance, in both universities, which seem to be linked to their own perception of disadvantage. Recognizing these characterizations allowed us to infer expectations of a good teacher, which constitutes a valuable input to rethink teaching practice itself.
