FIALHO, Lia Machado Fiuza  e  SOUSA, Francisca Genifer Andrade de. Sister Elisabeth Silveira and female education at Colégio da Imaculada Conceição. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.68, pp.291-316.  Epub 11-Maio-2021. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.21.068.ao01.

The study deals with the education of women in the mid-twentieth century, more specifically those from the elite of Ceará. The objective was to understand, based on Sister Elisabeth Silveira's biography, the education she was given and her teaching performance, which gave her social prominence in women's education in the period 1943-1968. It was supported theoretically in Cultural History to carry out a research of the biographical type that adopted oral history as a methodology. Data collection proceeded through free interviews developed with two former students, two friends and a niece of the biographer, interwoven with documentary sources - newspapers and a tribute book. The results showed that Elisabeth Silveira was a woman who enjoyed a privileged training trajectory, as she lived in the capital of Ceará and was able to attend the prestigious Colégio da Imaculada Conceição, where she completed the Normal Course. She became a nun and started to work as a teacher at that institution. Their educational practices for female education were based on religiosity, traditional teaching and the valorization of disciplining, to train young women, with differentiated purchasing power, schooled, behaved, obedient, religious, charitable, demure and secluded enough to achieve marriages, preferably, with men from financially successful families, with some social standing.
