Abstract

SILVA, Maria Betânia Moreira Carvalho  and  COLOMBO JUNIOR, Pedro Donizete. Museum of Dinosaurs: perspectives of social museology under the lens and voices of the surrounding community. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.69, pp.564-590.  Epub June 11, 2021. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.21.069.ds03.

Developing research that addresses museum and community themes requires relating segments that coexist and enrich each other, however, in most cases, they are perceived and treated in isolation. This research sought to investigate the looks and voices that echo over the Museum of Dinosaurs, Uberaba, Minas Gerais, from its surrounding community. The discussions are supported by social museology, which recognizes the importance of bringing museological paths closer when sharing territory, dialogue, valuation and the right to memory of different knowledge. The research is of a qualitative nature, supported by the theoretical constructs of oral history, the data being organized from the outline of two dimensions: sociocultural aspect and reliving memories and feeling of (in)(ex)clusion and participatory empowerment. Among the results, we highlight the importance of envisioning the relationship between museum and community, since the ties of belonging and sharing territory have become essential to democratic participation by citizens in society. In this regard, we highlight the richness of the stories narrated by the people who participated in the construction of the Museum of Dinosaurs, who struggle to remain invisible to the territorial space of the museum and its history.
