CASTRO, Vanessa Gomes de  and  TAVARES, Thiago Rodrigues. Education for race and ethnic relations: The project Museum of African History and Culture at school. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.69, pp.742-767.  Epub June 11, 2021. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.21.069.ds10.

This article aims to present the project “Museum of African History and Culture” in order to stimulate reflection on didactic possibilities related to education for race and ethnic relations. The project involved the simulation of a museum exhibition, developed at a public school in the state of Minas Gerais, gathering objects and images that make up the history and culture of black population, all of them provided by teachers and students. Students from 5th to 9th grade of elementary school and members of school community participated in this project. Accordingly we sought to discuss how the simulation of a museum exhibition at school may contribute in a didactical way to the teaching of African history and culture. Therefore we approach the educational potential of museums viewed as spaces for memories, conflicts and silences; the possibilities offered by museums in terms of education aiming race and ethnic relations; the simulation of museum exhibitions at school and some didactic possibilities. We conclude that active, creative and participatory methodologies, including the simulation of museums designed for students in elementary level, hold much promise for teaching and learning processes, with motivation, collaboration, selection, interpretation, comparison, organization and practice, that is, multiple capacities, deemed essential in training of quality for students.
