ALVES, Luciana Kubaski  and  MARTINIAK, Vera lucia. The expansion of public education based on the demands of the population of Paraná. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.73, pp.505-527.  Epub Dec 17, 2022. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.22.073.ds01.

The text presents the results of a doctoral study whose main theme was the expansion of public education based on the demands of the population of Paraná for the construction of schools, both in the colonies and in urban centers in the early twentieth century. The research has as its guiding question to understand how it happened the expansion of public education in Paraná from the demand for the creation of schools expressed in the requirements addressed to the governors. After the emancipation of the province and with the arrival of immigrant families there was an incentive to the development of cities, which stimulated trade and fostered the creation of infrastructure services and, consequently, the need to teach the population to read and write. The research was carried out through a qualitative approach, having as methodological procedure the historical method, with the use of documental research and, concomitantly, the combined use of primary sources. The primary sources used were the requirement books in which it was possible to perceive the "voice of the population", by means of petitions registering the claims. The analysis was based on authors such as Saviani (2007), Araújo (2007), Oliveira (1989), and Miguel (2017). The study allowed us to infer that the offer of public education happened slowly and gradually, and in this process private, ethnic, and confessional schools had an expressive presence in the state of Paraná in the beginning of the 20th century. However, the demands of the Paraná population for the creation of schools pressured the government and influenced the expansion of public education in the state.
