The aim of this article is to examine the school curriculum implemented by Dr. Gastão Vidigal State School, in the city of Maringá, state of Paraná, from 1953 to 1975. On that account, we discuss the colonization process of Northern Paraná State, where the city of Maringá is located, as well as the foundation and development of that city to find out the facts that led to the establishment of the school under study. Additionally, the school history and curriculum are addressed to shed light on the type of education students were offered at the time. To that end, we used bibliographic and documentary sources with highlight to the studies of Luz (1997), Sanches (2002), Reis (2004) and Wachowicz (1995), as well as documents about the history of the educational institution, newspapers and students’ grade reports, so that the collected information was examined in light of the context in which it was produced. We conclude that the educational institution studied herein contributed to the school education of the Maringaense population, and it did so according to the educational policy in forceat the time, which valued a civic and patriotic education in line with the industrial and urban development of the country.
