The purpose of this article is to analyze the history of education by the written press, in the 1920s, with the objective of investigating in the magazine O Ensino the conception of language conveyed to teachers in the public network of the state of Paraná, since that magazine was published by the State Education Inspectorate. In order to do so, it was used, specifically, the subject that deals with the conception that permeated the teaching of the Portuguese language in the state of Paraná under the title "Language Teaching", having as a basis authors that deal with the conceptions of language, carrying out the comparison between excerpts from the matter. Reflections on the magazine O Ensino help us to understand governmental initiatives, as well as the intentions of the State with public education in Paraná, pointing not only to the political base of the state. This research source also demonstrates that this material is rich in research possibilities, since it records the immediate and contemporary of the broadcast context, leaving the researcher with the challenge of re-reading it, since the press is not neutral and this challenge is up to the researcher. researcher to analyze, look at the phenomenon in its various determinations, as well as the reflexes in contemporaneity
