Abstract

LEMOS JUNIOR, Wilson  and  KRUGEL, Vanessa Cauê. History of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraná (1869-2008). Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.73, pp.831-853.  Epub Dec 17, 2022. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.22.073.ds15.

This article aims to investigate the historical trajectory of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraná (IFPR), which, despite having been conceived in 2008 through Law 11,892, had been dedicating itself to professional education in the city of Curitiba since the mid-1930s, when it was still part of Colégio Progresso. For this, the following sources are used: legislation, scriptures, reports, minutes, in addition to the bibliography about the institutions that gave rise to the IFPR. As a methodological reference, the reports of the historian Edward-Palmer Thompson (1981) and the valorization of the experience within the historical context are privileged. The article is divided into two parts. The first is dedicated to the history of Escola Alemã/ Colégio Progresso until the moment it started to function as an annex of the Faculty of Law of Paraná in 1942. The second part is dedicated to the history of the Technical School of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) which continued offering professional education courses until 2008, when it was dismembered, while one part gave rise to the IFPR and the other continued linked to the UFPR. , giving rise to the Professional and Technological Education Sector (SEPT). This article highlights the important contribution of the UFPR Technical School to the history of vocational and technological education in the city of Curitiba, in addition to the historical struggle to maintain its existence, until the creation of the IFPR.
