Abstract

BONETI, Lindomar Wessler. Freire and Liberation: Achieving Equality in Times of Oppression. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.73, pp.914-933.  Epub Dec 17, 2022. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.22.073.ao03.

Based on Paulo Freire's teachings, this article analyzes the intercession of the words freedom and equality and their relationship with oppression, with attention to the context of the plurality of meanings, complexities and abstractions that carry this relationship. In a large part of Paulo Freire's works, there is a concern with the project of modernity with the use of the word and the construction of oppression. Thus, this article analyzes the deviations of modernity with the use of the word, from the teachings of Paulo Freire, initially in a general way, but focusing on the specific case of Brazil. Methodologically, it follows the paths of modern rationality and the different meanings of the word Reason, from human redemption to the paths of oppression. In other words, in the epistemology of modern rationality, the word Reason is presented as a synonym for truth, a truth originating from scientificity. In the name of the meanings of the word Reason, a project of humanity was built. But also, throughout history, especially with the advent of capitalist relations, the word Reason has taken on new meanings, opening up new paths to oppression. Finally, with a conclusive perspective, we analyze what would be a new Reason, one that leads to freedom and equality from the teachings of Paulo Freire, through the word.

Keywords : Paulo Freire; Freedom; Equality; Autonomy; Oppression.
