This study adopted the State of Knowledge technique and, based on research aimed at analyzing teaching performance in prisons, describes the student and the singularities of teaching in these ambiences, detects the need for initial and continuing training to work in prison schools and the prior lack of knowledge of the specifics of prison education on the part of teachers, verifies a mismatch between the official texts and the reality of prison schools, reveals different obstacles and difficulties for the teaching practice in prison education. However, it verifies the existence of teachers who revealed to enjoy working in prison schools and realize that teacher training occurs through daily practice. There is, therefore, the urgency of a greater approximation between public policies in the educational scope, teachers and managers of the penal establishment, with a view to ordering actions that can strengthen and the necessary partnerships in favor of educational training in the country's prisons.
