Abstract

The article in question has as main objective to analyze aspects present in the notes of the recipe book of the Viscountess of Arcozelo, as an artifact that is part of the female private archives, especially of 19th century women, whose daily life turned to home and family was covered few possibilities of intimate writings, notably those characterized as personal narratives. On a more specific level, it seeks to verify how the recipe book can also be considered a mode of education, through the knowledge and practices that it intended to keep and preserve to teach other women. The main source of the study is the recipe book, analyzed as a document that contains traces of intimacy, care, and fed in a personal file, and prepared by its owner as a collection, from the interrelation with other women who were part of the generational sociabilities of his time. The methodological procedures refer to essentially documentary research, which confronts these manuscripts with others produced by the same author, such as her diary, in addition to the bibliography referring to the female daily life of literate women in the 19th century. At the end, it concludes with the appreciation of this personal archive as an important testimony of material culture and everyday life with its uses and customs in the 19th century manor houses.
