FERRAZ, MAISA OLIVEIRA MELO; PIRES, ENNIA DÉBORA PASSOS BRAGA  y  SILVA, SOANE SANTOS. Reflections on the Profile of UESB Quota Holders Students. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.75, pp.1869-1994.  Epub 26-Dic-2022. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.22.075.ao08.

Resulting from a research carried out at the Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia (UESB) whose object of investigation was the Affirmative Actions Program, the article aims to present and discuss the profile of quota students assisted by the program. The research had as theoretical-methodological orientation the historical and dialectical materialism. Studies on public educational policy and affirmative action, among which Hofling (2001), Gomes (2001), Fonseca (2009) and others, provided theoretical support for the study that involved students from four courses at the institution. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The analysis of the profile of the quota students participating in the research revealed that the majority were young people (79.8%), from the state of Bahia itself (98.2%), whose female representation was greater (55.4%). In terms of color/race, the declared pardos represented a percentage of 43.4%, followed by blacks with 31.8%. At this point, 2.3% of the students preferred not to declare themselves, which suggested the existence of veiled racism. Most of those surveyed had, in their family group, low education in terms of higher education, revealing the “affirmative” aspect of the Affirmative Action Program. As for gross family income, more than 83% had an income of up to half a minimum wage to 2 (two) minimum wages, demonstrating that they do not have enough income to maintain themselves at the University and thus need institutional support. If structuring changes do not occur, access will continue to be made possible, but the segments historically excluded will remain on the sidelines.

Palabras clave : Affirmative Action; Higher Education; Quota Holders..
