This article problematizes challenges from investigative paths in ethnographic research carried out with children in the collective context of early childhood education. The problematization takes place by placing in dialogue methodological paths followed in two researches with children and three thematic categories that make up the ethnographic researches with children pointed out by Christensen (2004): a) the dialogical processes of access to “children's communication cultures”; b) the recognition and statutory relationships inherent to the adult researcher, and; c) power relations. The article, at first, discusses the thematic category that involves relationships with children and access to their contexts and cultures of communication. In a second moment, it deals with the recognition and statutory relationships inherent to the adult researcher and the challenges of these relationships. Finally, it brings reflections on power relations, having as its main starting point to project a relationship as symmetrical as possible, based on the definition of ethical symmetry, whether in relationships with children or adults.
