OLIVEIRA, Terezinha; SILVA, Sani de Carvalho Rutz da e GALUCH, Maria Terezinha Bellanda. Ethics in the Publishing of Scientific Periodicals: reflections on the training of academics. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2024, vol.24, n.82, pp.878-891. Epub 21-Out-2024. ISSN 1981-416X. https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.24.082.ds02.
This text aims to reflect on ethics in the process of publishing scientific journals, especially journals in the Education Area, highlighting possibilities for training postgraduate academics involved in this process. It is guided by two issues: a) the understanding of scientific publishing as a means of social development, since articles make public the results of research that, in turn, have the social role of contributing to expanding theoretical and applied knowledge in different areas; b) the understanding that the training of postgraduate students for activities in publishing scientific journals is not restricted to technical knowledge of this profession. This training presupposes ethical conduct, through which young people become aware of the role that scientific publishing plays in the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of better living conditions for all, as well as the significance of their actions in this area. Such reflection is expanded by the presentation of a case of participation of doctoral students with scholarships in the process of editing a journal in the area of education. This participation provided the doctoral students with the opportunity to understand the ethics related to peer review, the formal aspects of editing, the difficulties faced by editors in receiving opinions on articles, and the importance of the quality of articles submitted to journals. In this training process, the editor, who is also a teacher and advisor, is a reference for future editors, that is, those who will continue the work of previous generations. Therefore, the training of young editors involves technical knowledge permeated by the ethical conduct of those who form the new generation of researchers and editors.
