This work aims to analyze, comparatively, the financing strategies for policies to extend the school day in Brazil, through the Programa Mais Educação (PME), and in Uruguay, through the Escuelas de Tiempo Completos (ETCs). Taking the comparative study in education as a reference, documentary research was used, based on normative documents of the aforementioned policies, as well as bibliographical research, through studies carried out in the field. Among the results, it was noted the alignment of the financing strategies of the PME and the ETCs with the guidelines that supported the educational reforms of the 1990s, whether through the search for expanding the school day without increasing financial resources for the area; or through financing from loans from international financial organizations.
