This article examines the strategies young children in Early Childhood Education use to navigate gender scripts in their everyday school experiences, with a focus on the interplay between materialities, spaces, and relationships. Grounded in Gender Studies and the Sociology of Childhood from a post-structuralist perspective, the study aims to explore how children subvert and reinterpret these scripts-often in subtle ways that go unnoticed in daily life. The research values these acts of resistance and struggle, which are frequently symbolic, as a starting point for broadening the conversation on gender in Early Childhood Education through the lens of childhood itself. Conducted through ethnographic methods, the study involved 17 four-year-old children at a public school in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, Brazil. The findings highlight the importance of fostering inclusive and participatory spaces where children can share their narratives and challenge traditional gender norms. The study concludes that an inclusive curriculum, teacher training, and public policies that promote freer environments are essential to ensuring children’s rights.
