This article aims to provide an overview and analyze the precarization of teacher education in Angola in connection with the social problems affecting the country, highlighting how these dimensions directly impact the quality of basic education. Based on a historical-critical approach, grounded in Gatti (2010), Saviani (1997), Samuels (2011), and Zau (2011), the article shows that the legacy of colonization, the effects of civil war, and the structural limitations of educational policies negatively influence initial teacher education and teachers’ working conditions. Furthermore, as a conclusion, it is possible to affirm that the challenges faced in basic education are linked, among other factors, to the absence of an educational policy that includes teacher training, and that overcoming this scenario requires structural investments and a concept of teacher education committed to social transformation.
