Abstract

MARQUES, Gesséler Campos de Oliveira; BRENTANO, Michel Arias  and  KRUEL, Luiz Fernando Martins. Estimativa da força máxima dinâmica através de coeficientes e de análise de regressão linear baseados em parâmetros antropométricos de homens destreinados em força. Rev. Bras. Educ. Fís. Esporte [online]. 2009, vol.23, n.02, pp.171-181. ISSN 1981-4690.

The 1 RM test percentages have been used to prescribe strength training intensity. However, this test is time demanding due to difficulties in choosing the initial load. Estimations of 1 RM have been proposed by the utilization of anthropometric parameters. However, few exercises were investigated. Therefore, the aim of this study was to generate regression coefficients to estimate maximal strength in three strength exercises, based on body mass and lean body mass. Sixteen physically active young adult males had their body composition (skinfolds) and maximal strength (1 RM - lat pulldown, peck deck and triceps pressdown) assessed. Correlations between maximal strength, body mass and lean body mass were obtained by Pearson test (P < 0.05). Comparisons between the strength values obtained by regression coefficients, regression analysis and the “real” strength values, were made by analysis of variance with repeated measures (ANOVA), and Bonferroni post-hoc test. It was observed that only lean body mass was correlated with lat pulldown (r = 0.538, p < 0.05), peck deck (r = 0.502, p < 0.05) and triceps pressdown (r = 0.556, p < 0.05) strength values, resulting in the coefficients 1.01, 0.92, and 0.52, respectively. We concluded that the coefficients stated by lean body mass can be used to estimate maximal strength in detrained young male adults.
