SOUZA, Cláudia de Paula Juliano  e  LIMA, Fátima Maria Lindoso da Silva. The Role of Group Psychotherapy in the Training of Psychiatry Residents. Rev. Bras. Educ. Med. [online]. 2016, vol.40, n.1, pp.109-117. ISSN 1981-5271.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1981-52712015v40n1e00702015.

The aim of this paper was to analyze the role of group psychotherapy in the training of psychiatry residents in the Psychiatric Medical Residency Program of the Federal University of Goiás. This is a descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach in medical education. The data were collected through descriptive reports and semi-structured interviews subjected to thematic-categorical content analysis. Two categories emerged from the data analysis: the educational actions of group psychotherapy training and the social actions in group psychotherapy training. Five subcategories were obtained from the analysis of the first category: doctor-patient relationship, cognitive learning, affective learning, interdisciplinary dialogue and personal development. In the second category, a further two were obtained: socialization and meeting. The conclusion is that the teaching of group psychotherapy has an educational role, as it contributes innovation to practice scenarios, enabling changes in the resident-patient relationship and consolidating the expanded health concept from the perspective of comprehensiveness. It also reveals its social role, contributing toward closer socio-interactive relations between tutor, resident and group.
