SANT’ANA, Elisete Regina Rubin de Bortoli  e  PEREIRA, Edna Regina Silva. Medical Preceptorship in Accident and Emergency Hospital Service from the Doctors’ Perspective. Rev. Bras. Educ. Med. [online]. 2016, vol.40, n.2, pp.204-215. ISSN 1981-5271.  https://doi.org/10.1590/1981-52712015v40n2e00542014.

This study aims to analyze preceptorship, from the doctor’s perspective, in a school hospital urgency and emergency service in Goiânia, Goiás. The study used a qualitative approach and, through semi-structured interview, interviewed fifteen doctors from January to March 2013. It was developed a thematic content analysis, which concluded that the doctors interviewed consider preceptorship central to the teaching-learning process. They believe that being a preceptor means transferring knowledge and taking responsibility for vocational training. The discussion of clinical and surgical cases were the most cited activities. Participants reported that preceptorship helped the preceptor to keep learning. They highlighted the good relationship with the multidisciplinary team, the student’s interest and his/her good theoretical training as abilities. As difficulties, they mentioned the lack of infrastructure and time, little communication between professors and preceptors and low training to preceptorship. The research concluded that, from the doctor’s perspective, preceptorship contributed to the formation of future professionals. They also faced difficulties developing this task and therefore they suggested improvements in infrastructure, working conditions and training.
